Since its inception, the philosophy of Buddhism has been associated with peace and pacifism.  That emphasis derives principally from the consistent rejection of violence combined with stress on dialogue and discussion as the best means to resolve conflict.

Genuine dialogue results in the transformation of opposing viewpoints, changing them from wedges that drive people apart into bridges that link them together.  Only within the open space created by dialogue, whether conducted with our neighbors, with history, with nature or the cosmos, can human wholeness be sustained.

The SGI remains committed to the role of dialogue in the advancement of peace, culture and education.  To put this into actual practice, we have sought to promote dialogue among civilizations, meeting with individuals from every continent on earth.

In this spirit, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda has conducted over 1,600 dialogue sessions with leading figures of many diverse fields and backgrounds worldwide.  Many of these dialogues have been published in book form and are available in a number of languages.
